Description
The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old is produced at The Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland. The distillery is operated by William Grant & Sons and is one of seven distilleries that maintains its own malting floor, utilizing traditional floor malting processes in production. The whisky is crafted from 100% malted barley and undergoes double distillation in pot stills.
The spirit is matured for 14 years in traditional oak whisky casks. Following this initial maturation, the whisky receives a finishing period in American oak casks that previously held Caribbean rum. These rum casks are filled with Malt Master David C. Stewart’s own blend of West Indian rums to season the wood before use. The whisky is bottled at 43% ABV without chill filtration and contains no added caramel coloring.
The whisky presents a clear, golden appearance. On the nose, rich and sweet creamy toffee is accompanied by fresh fruit notes, peach, vanilla, and honey. The palate is rounded with vanilla, sweet oak, fruity character including tropical notes of mango and passion fruit, caramel, honey, and brown sugar. The finish is soft and lingering with vanilla focus and sustained sweetness complemented by black pepper.
The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old has received recognition at international spirits competitions, including Gold medals at the International Spirits Challenge in 2023 and 2020, and a Gold medal from the International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2020. The whisky is presented in standard single malt bottle format with traditional Balvenie labeling.
This whisky is commonly enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or with a small amount of water to open the flavor profile.
