The Macallan 30 Year Old is produced at The Macallan Distillery in Speyside, Scotland. This expression is offered in two variants as part of the 2023 release: Sherry Oak and Double Cask, each representing 30 years of maturation with distinct cask influences.
The Sherry Oak 30 Year Old is matured for 30 years in hand-picked sherry-seasoned oak casks sourced from Jerez, Spain. The whisky presents a natural dark mahogany color. On the nose, rich sherry, orange, clove, nutmeg, and wood smoke are present, along with clove-studded oranges, raisins, plums, and walnuts.
The palate offers dried fruits, sherry, orange, wood smoke, sticky toffee pudding, orange blossom water, and sandalwood. The finish is long and rich with orange and spice.The Double Cask 30 Year Old is matured for 30 years in sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks.
The American oak is sourced from forests in Ohio, Missouri, and Kentucky, while the European oak comes from northern Spain and the French Pyrenees. This expression presents a natural golden acorn color.
The aroma features fresh honeycomb, sweet toffee, red apple, fig, and vanilla pod. The palate delivers cinnamon, ginger, Madagascan vanilla, dried fruits, and oak. The finish offers sweet oak, soft spice, and toffee.Both expressions are distillery bottlings with no artificial coloring added, allowing the natural color developed during cask maturation to be displayed.
The whisky is presented in standard bottle format. This whisky is commonly enjoyed neat to appreciate the character developed over three decades of maturation.
