Description
Arran Sherry Cask The Bodega is distilled at the Lochranza Distillery on the Isle of Arran, Scotland. Produced by Isle of Arran Distillers Ltd, this expression is crafted using traditional double distillation in copper pot stills.
The distillery uses rainwater collected at Loch na Davie, which is purified by six natural mountain waterfalls, as its water source. The mash bill consists of 100% malted barley, and the spirit is produced without the use of peat.
This whisky is matured exclusively in first-fill sherry hogsheads sourced from bodegas in Jerez, Spain. The hogsheads have a capacity of 250 liters, which intensifies the wood interaction during maturation. The expression represents a return to the distillery’s early production style, which primarily utilized sherry casks.
The whisky is bottled at cask strength of 55.8% ABV without chill filtration and contains no added coloring, relying entirely on the cask for its deep amber or polished mahogany hue. The bottle features embossed ripples on the glass shoulder and base that symbolize the six mountain waterfalls from the water source.
On the nose, toffee, chocolate raisins, mandarins, sweet spice, figs, black cherries, cinnamon, and crystallized ginger are present. The palate offers ripe fig, sweet cherries, dark chocolate, raisins, ginger, pink pepper, hazelnuts, and baking spices with a warm and textured mouthfeel.
The finish is long and powerful, featuring toasted oak, pink pepper, dark chocolate, mandarins, bitter coffee, and spicy wood.
Arran Sherry Cask The Bodega carries no numerical age statement. The expression is commonly enjoyed neat or with a small amount of water to open the flavor profile.
