Description
Ardbeg 30 Year Old 1991 Old & Rare Magnum represents a single cask bottling from Hunter Laing’s Old & Rare Heritage Selection. This Islay single malt Scotch whisky was distilled at Ardbeg Distillery in March 1991 and matured for 30 years in a single refill hogshead before bottling in 2021.
This independent bottling is presented in magnum format, with only 39 individually numbered 1.5 litre bottles produced worldwide. The whisky is non-chill filtered and naturally colored, bottled at cask strength of 53.2% ABV to preserve the full character developed during three decades of maturation.
The whisky displays a rich, deep gold color. On the nose, sweet iodine and sea salt emerge alongside waves of peat smoke characteristic of Islay malts. The palate reveals creamy vanilla and honeyed malt balanced by iodine, marine salt, and concentrated peat. The finish is long and lingering with refined peat smoke that carries the signature of extended aging.
Distilled during a period often referred to as a golden era for Ardbeg, this 1991 vintage showcases the complexity that develops when Islay peat smoke is refined by 30 years in oak. The single cask nature of this bottling means each of the 39 magnums shares a unique profile shaped by its individual hogshead.
This Old & Rare expression from Hunter Laing is typically enjoyed neat or with a small amount of water to open the layered flavors developed through three decades of maturation on Islay.
