Description
The Macallan 15 Year Old Double Cask is crafted at The Macallan Distillery in Speyside, Scotland. This expression is defined by its maturation process, which combines American oak and European oak casks, both seasoned with Oloroso sherry in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, for approximately 18 months.
The spirit is produced using curiously small stills, which are among the smallest in Speyside. This unique distillation process maximizes copper contact, creating a rich and fruity character.
Water for production is sourced from the Macallan Estate, drawn from boreholes in gravel and springs flowing over magnesium-rich limestone.
The whisky presents a natural golden butterscotch color with no added caramel. The nose reveals dried fruit, butterscotch, and vanilla, balanced with baked apple, honey, and chocolate.
On the palate, sweet raisin and sultana are followed by vanilla, wood spice including cinnamon and nutmeg, and citrus notes. The finish is warm and lingering with ginger, caramel, citrus, and a creamy mouthfeel.
This Double Cask expression differs from the discontinued Triple Cask and Fine Oak versions by focusing entirely on sherry-seasoned wood, removing the bourbon cask influence.
The bottle features blue label accents that distinguish the 15-year age statement within The Macallan range and comes presented in a rigid gift box with a matching color scheme.
The Macallan 15 Year Old Double Cask is commonly enjoyed neat or with a small amount of water to open the flavor profile.
