Description
Glenfiddich Project XX represents the second release in the distillery’s Experimental Series. This expression was created when 20 Glenfiddich brand ambassadors from 16 countries were invited to the Conval warehouse in Dufftown, where each selected a single cask from the distillery’s stock. Malt Master Brian Kinsman then married these 20 casks together to form the final blend.
The vatting combines 17 ex-bourbon barrels, 2 sherry butts, and 1 port pipe. The liquid is non-chill filtered and bottled at 47% ABV, a strength chosen to preserve the richer mouthfeel and complexity that chill filtration would otherwise remove.
While Project XX carries no age statement, it meets the legal requirement for single malt Scotch whisky by being aged in oak casks for a minimum of three years.
The whisky presents a deep gold color. On the nose, classic Glenfiddich fruitiness, including apple blossom and plump pear, is balanced with vanilla oak, golden sugar, and a subtle touch of liquorice.
The palate offers deep and mellow sweetness reminiscent of candyfloss or marshmallow, complemented by toasted almonds, cinnamon spice, and a hint of crisp tannin. The finish is long-lasting with lingering sweet oakiness and occasional notes of dark chocolate or espresso.
Distilled at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Speyside, which was founded in 1886 by William Grant, Project XX is produced by William Grant & Sons Ltd. The expression is housed in distinctive opaque black glass with a triangular bottle shape and features a stylized thumbprint on the label, representing the amalgamation of the 20 ambassadors’ prints.
Glenfiddich Project XX is commonly enjoyed neat or with a small amount of water to open the flavor profile.
