Description
Ardbeg 1972 VELIER is produced at the Ardbeg Distillery on the Isle of Islay, Scotland. This single cask bottling represents whisky distilled on 27 October 1972 and matured for 30 years before being bottled on 5 May 2003. The spirit was aged in oak cask number 2782 throughout the entire maturation period.
The whisky was bottled at natural cask strength of 49.9% ABV exclusively for V.E.L.I.E.R., an Italian distributor. The bottling produced only 246 individually numbered bottles, making this a limited release for the Italian market. The single cask nature of this bottling means each bottle represents the unique character developed in cask 2782 over three decades of maturation.
This expression was distilled during an era when Ardbeg operated its own maltings, which contributed to varying peating levels in production. The bottling at natural cask strength preserves the full intensity and character developed during the 30-year aging process.
Each bottle is individually numbered and carries specific identification details including the cask number, distillation date, bottling date, and the exclusive V.E.L.I.E.R. designation. The 700 mL bottling format follows standard European sizing conventions.
This whisky is commonly enjoyed neat to appreciate the character of the single cask and extended maturation period.
